Next Food Blog Star

Ok…I hope that worked, if it didn’t I suppose I should go ahead and explain why I tried my elementary hypnotism skills on you. I’m competing in my very first foodie contest and I’m very excited, nervous and experiencing writers block. Foodbuzz is looking for the Next Food Buzz Star with a winners prize of $10,000. All I have to do is compete against 1800 bloggers in a 10 round competition and come out as the winner! Seems easy enough…..(side eye). I will need you, my wonderful readers to head over to Foodbuzz and vote for me! You can check out my profile by clicking on the ad in the upper left corner that has my face on it.
I’ve been wrestling with the angle at which to complete the first assignment which is answering this question: what defines you as a food blogger and why should you be the next food blog star? I decided to write from the heart and on the fly. What defines me are you, my readers, and the people that take the time out to visit my blog, request recipes and drop a few lines of critique. When I started this blog I had a specific idea of what I wanted to write about and the recipes I wanted to create and recreate. I was quickly derailed by enticing photos, scrumptious recipes and other delicious food blogs, I lost my focus. On the days that I posted the recipes that were a part of my vision I received wonderful comments of gratitude..and many requests. That gave me the extra nudge I needed to morph my blog into what I wanted to be, and that’s a food blog that focuses on Guyanese and Caribbean recipes.
It’s been a tough road because it’s very difficult to find Authentic Guyanese and Caribbean recipes. There have been many failures and times where I didn’t post for more than a week because I just couldn’t post unless I was 100% satisfied and knew that my recipe would not fail. I’ve challenged myself in many ways for the sake of my blog and for you, my readers. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!
Why should I be the Next Food Blog Star? Why shouldn’t I? I’m passionate, progressive and my blog is unique. I sought a path that is rarely taken and every bit of it comes from the heart. Despite the challenges, with my little point and shoot camera and tripod I produce awesome pictures/food porn. In my little kitchen that doesn’t have a single baking sheet, I’ve created wonderful, delicious and authentic recipes that anyone can try. Those are the qualities of a star, one who forges his or her own path, breaks down walls and overcome challenges with the shake a whisk!
*Phew*I’ve submitted my first entry!! That deserves a drink!
That’s actually 2 drinks! Lol. You deserve it hon. Kudos again.
Thanks Shauna!
Win or not, your blog is a great find. Your recipes are so helpful for the rest of us googling for authenticity in the Carribean food world. G’luck to you!
BEAUTIFUL photography!
Jehan, loving that slideshow! It’s got me all hypnotized.. @J@. LOL.
Good luck for Project Food Blog!
I can totally relate to not posting on my blog until the recipe is just right! My husband and I have developed our own critique system to determine if recipes are blog-worthy. I look forward to learning authentic Caribbean cooking from you. It is one of my favorite forms of cultural cooking. I wish you all the best in the competition!
I did the same “phew” when I submitted my entry as well. Nicely written. Good luck!
